Looking for Alaska by John Green
This is the third book I have read penned by John Green. As much as it will hurt, I am sad to say that it didn’t quite have an impact on me unlike The Fault In Our Stars.
Looking for Alaska is about Miles Halters decision to go to Culver Creek boarding school to search of the Great Perhaps. And from there he meets new friends, Colonel, Alaska, Takumi and Lara. They go through school like most students do, they face problem subjects and they plan pranks to get even with the Weekend Warriors.
The story is somewhat shallow for me. Miles decides to go to boarding school for the Great Perhaps when clearly, he just wants a change of environment where he will not be considered a loser and have real friends. Alaska, is described as beautiful and a smart girl with an attitude. And by attitude, yes she is this bad ass girl who knows what she wants and when she wants it although all throughout the story she seems to be in an up and down mood swing. When Alaska died, of course it had a great impact on her friends but it was just weird that they had to investigate to get to the bottom of Alaska’s death whether it was really just an accident or a suicide attempt.
But as John Green said, ““The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive.” .
So yeah John Green, I forgive you.
